This Bird of Paradise Stem is popular for it’s vibrant colours and stunning, architectural shape. Also known as a crane flower, or strelitzia reginae to give its latin name, the bird of paradise is a species of a flowering plant indigenous to South Africa. An evergreen perennial, it is widely cultivated for its dramatic flowers, however it is slow growing and will not bloom until three to five years has passed since germination. Popular since it’s introduction at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in 1773, this 1m long stem will make a statement when displayed alone, but will look even more stunning when mixed with other tropical foliage stems.
